“Easterseals is leading the way to 100% equity, inclusion and access for people with disabilities, families and communities”.
Easterseals provides programs and services to ensure that people with disabilities or other special needs and their families have equal opportunities to live, learn, work and play in their communities. We provide programs in 47 counties in western and central Pennsylvania. Locally, we have the Lance and Ellen Shaner Child Development Center. The Easterseals Lance and Ellen Shaner Child Development Center (CDC) in State College, PA is committed to bringing high-quality, state-of-the-art inclusive early care and education to families in Centre County. Easterseals provides a nurturing environment in which typically developing children and children with varying needs learn and grow together. At Easterseals CDC, experienced classroom staff foster the early education experience of all children in a loving environment with adult to child ratios that ensure every child receives individualized attention. The teachers at Easterseals are a strong community of educators and life long learners who share a common love for what they do and are invested in providing exceptional care to the families they serve. Their skills are enhanced through their partnerships with families, affiliation with professional organizations, collaborative efforts and participation in trainings and courses focused on best practices in early care and education.
As a part of the Keystone STARS Quality Initiative Program we provide an enriching curriculum that evokes learning through play which is a child’s most natural means of interacting with their environment. Children ages six weeks through pre-kindergarten age can enroll in one of our four integrated classrooms. At the CDC, children are afforded the opportunity to explore their spacious classrooms, participate in small and large group activities, expend their energy on the playground or while riding bikes and so much more. Diversity is also a valued and celebrated element of our program. Children learn from peers in this rich environment and develop a strong sense of acceptance and understanding of differences. Children from a variety of socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds and with varying abilities attend Easterseals Child Development Center. As a non-profit organization, we strive to provide the highest-quality services at costs that are affordable to all families.
Jayden’s Mom shares, “The staff at Easterseals have created a warm, inviting school where every little person is treasured. The teachers show typical students what understanding, and acceptance looks like for non-typical peers. Jayden has thrived at Easterseals. He LOVES coming to school and soaks up all the new learning opportunities…”
Below are images of the before and after of the Easterseals playground. They installed rubber surfacing to make sure that any and all children could easily use the area. With donations like yours, Easterseals will be able to continue to make upgrades to their facility to better accommodate all children!
