June 17th is “EAT Your Veggies” Day! It’s no news that vegetables are good for you, but tomorrow is a day to remind yourself to get those veggies into your diet! Remember how your parents used to tell you to eat your vegetables?
They were right: vegetables are essential for living a long, healthy life, and they are also delicious! In recent years, there has been a steady rise in the number of American families that grow their own vegetables. The most popular crops for home gardening are tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet peppers, and beans.
But kids aren’t the only ones who avoid eating vegetables – lots of adults have trouble incorporating veggies into their daily meals as well. There are plenty of easy ways to make sure you eat your veggies today:
- …like throwing a handful of raw spinach into your morning smoothie or tossing tomatoes, carrots and cucumbers into a salad for dinner.
- You can simply swap a junk food snack for some fresh green, or step it up and become a vegetarian for the day!
And if that’s not enough motivation, just remember what your Mama used to say: if you eat your vegetables, you get some dessert!
