Former President Trump’s Truth Social is getting what may be seen as an unlikely new user.  California Governor Gavin Newsom joined the Trump-created social media platform on Thursday.  The Democrat said he joined Truth Social to call out “Republican lies.”  In a video post, the governor brought up the murder rates in states that are ran by Republicans, asking what has led to surges in those states.  In a tweet about joining Truth Social, Newsome said, “This could get…interesting.”

Texas GOP Senator John Cornyn told reporters he doesn’t know what Democratic Senators Chris Murphy and Kyrsten Sinema had in mind but that he was “through talking.” Murphy and Republican Senator Thom Tillis later said an agreement is close.

A suspect is in custody after a shooting at a church near Birmingham, Alabama.  Two people were killed and another injured.  The FBI, ATF, US Marshals and local law enforcement all responded to reports of shots fired at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church Thursday evening. 

Another American is reportedly missing in Ukraine.  The news comes after two U.S. military veterans, both from Alabama, were reported missing, with a photo showing them in back of a Russian truck with their hands tied.  The State Department says it has spoken to the family of the third person, but didn’t release further details.

The last person under trial in the college admissions-cheating scandal has been acquitted.  A federal court jury in Boston on Thursday found Amin Khoury not guilty after being accused of bribing a Georgetown University tennis coach to get his daughter into the school.  The case against Khoury is the only one of the 57 federal prosecutors brought that ended in an acquittal.

Big Ten Announces Men’s Basketball 2022-23 Home and Away Opponents

Penn State women’s basketball has learned its opponents for 18 Big Ten games in the upcoming 2022-23 season, the conference announced Thursday.

Penn State track and field All-American Tyler Merkley has been named the Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Men’s Field Athlete of the Year, as announced by the conference office Thursday afternoon.
