John Hinkley Jr.’s Concert Gig Is Canceled By Venue

A Brooklyn music venue is canceling a sold-out show featuring the attempted assassin of former President Reagan.

Market Hotel announced they were canceling the show featuring John Hinckley Jr., saying “There was a time when a place could host a thing like this, maybe a little offensive, and the reaction would be ‘it’s just a guy playing a show, who does it hurt — it’s a free country.’ We aren’t living in that kind of free country anymore, for better or for worse.”

A U.S. district judge granted Hinckley full release on Wednesday. He was found not guilty by reason of insanity, then spent more than 30 years in a mental hospital. He’s now released without conditions after previously receiving a conditional release to his mother’s house in 2016.
