Seventy percent of Americans support reducing gun violence over gun rights. A new ABC/Ipsos poll also found 23 percent of Americans saying gun rights should be a higher priority than lowering gun violence. Fifty-six percent of Republicans said protecting gun owners’ rights is a higher priority.

South Korea and the U.S. are responding to North Korea’s missile launch yesterday.  The two countries fired eight surface-to-surface missiles.  South Korea’s military said the launch  demonstrated the capability and readiness to carry out a precision strike against the North’s launch sites or command-and-control centers. 

The President of France says not embarrassing Russia could help lead to negotiated end to the war in Ukraine.  In an interview published over the weekend, the French president said the West “must not humiliate” Russia for it to be possible to build an exit ramp through diplomacy.  In response, Ukraine’s foreign minister said, “calls to avoid humiliation of Russia can only humiliate France and every other country that would call for it.”

Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela are reportedly being barred from the Summit of the Americas by the Biden Administration.  According to Bloomberg News, the administration made the decision despite threats from Mexico’s president that he’ll skip the summit unless all Western Hemisphere countries are invited.  According to a source cited by Bloomberg, U.S. officials decided that concerns about human rights and lack of democracy in the three countries weighed too heavily against inviting them.

There have been no arrests in connection to the deadly shooting outside a nightclub in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Police Chief Celeste Murphy said in all, 14-people were shot and three got hit by vehicles.  Of those numbers, two people were shot dead and a third person died after getting run over by a vehicle. 

World War Two veterans will gather at the American Cemetery in Normandy in honor of D-Day today.  This marks the 78th anniversary of U.S., British and Canadian troops landing on he beaches of Normandy.  The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff will be on hand as U.S. Air Force aircraft fly over the burial site as part of a commemoration ceremony.
