The governor of Texas is taking action to help a small town heal from last week’s school massacre. Greg Abbott has declared a disaster in Uvalde to speed up resources and continue providing support. The shooting killed 19 children and two teachers in a fourth grade classroom.

Fifteen mass shootings in three days.  That’s the updated total over Memorial Day weekend.  The group Gun Violence Archive shows nine people were killed and more than 70 wounded across the nation between Friday evening and early yesterday morning.

President Biden is ready to arm Ukraine with medium-range rocket systems.  He says this will help soldiers  “more precisely strike key targets on the battlefield.”  The war-torn country has been begging for the weapons after Russia invaded more than three months ago.

The Justice Department is trying to get a ban on the travel mask mandate lifted.  It asked a court to overturn a judge’s ruling in April that ended masks on planes, trains and buses.  The DOJ is appealing the decision after the CDC said the mandate was necessary to fight COVID. 

California is releasing its first government-commissioned report on reparations today.   It details the harms perpetuated by the state against Black people.  It also recommends expanding voter registration and making it easier to hold violent police accountable.

Disgraced comedian Bill Cosby is facing a new sexual assault trial.  Jury selection starts today in Los Angeles.  A woman claims Cosby groped her while at the Playboy Mansion nearly 50 years ago when she was a teenager.  It’s a civil case, so Cosby can’t go back to prison.

The Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey program will be well represented in Philadelphia this June when USA Field Hockey hosts its 100th Anniversary and Hall of Fame Awards Celebration. The event takes place on Saturday, June 18, at 5 p.m. at the historic Union League of Philadelphia.

Penn State men’s golf student-athletes Jimmy Meyers, Lou Olsakovsky and Patrick Sheehan have been named to the Division I All-Northeast Region Team, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Sunday morning.

The Topgolf Live Stadium Tour is headed to Beaver Stadium tomorrow through this Sunday, June 5th. Fans will have an opportunity to experience Topgolf from the historic home of Penn State Football. Targets will be on the field for fans to take aim from the stands.

NHL Western Conference Finals action is underway.  The Avalanche took Game One of their best of seven series with the Oilers 8-6 in Denver yesterday.  The Eastern Conference Finals are set to get underway tonight.  The New York Rangers are hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning at Madison Square Garden for Game One. 

The Detroit Tigers announced they have called up Kody Clemens to the Major Leagues. Kody spent the season with the team’s Triple-A affiliate in Toledo. He’s 26 years old and happens to be the youngest son of Baseball legend Roger Clemens.

Kody Clemens starred in the Tigers’ second game in Tuesday’s doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins. His dad, Roger, was at the game watching his son make his Major League debut.
