The second biggest county in the nation is bringing back its mask mandate.  Los Angeles begins a new COVID health order today on all public transportation after the CDC said it was still needed.  Boston is also urging masks again while Philadelphia drops its new mandate.

A new abortion law in Kentucky is on hold.  A judge blocked it days after lawmakers voted to override the governor’s veto, banning women from ending their pregnancy after 15 weeks.  The state’s two abortion clinics had stopped performing the procedure but will offer it again.

Gas prices are holding steady going into the weekend.  Triple-A shows today’s national average is still four dollars and 12 cents a gallon, up five cents from last week.  Experts say demand is increasing as at least have the nation is now under the four-dollar mark.

Thirteen athletes are filing claims against the FBI, asking for ten million dollars each.  They were abused by a former sports doctor for a college and USA Gymnastics.  Their lawyer says the FBI mishandled an investigation that allowed Larry Nassar to hurt more victims.

A 9-11 first responder is recovering in the hospital after getting a new heart this week.  Terry Shaffer was the volunteer fire chief in Shanksville, Pennsylvania when Flight 93 crashed.  He had been suffering with heart issues and was put on a transplant list last November.

Sports

The Penn State’s women’s tennis team (10-11, 4-4 B1G) will host Rutgers (4-13, 4-12 B1G) on Friday at 4 p.m. and Maryland (16-5, 5-4 B1G) for their Senior Day match on Sunday at noon. Sunday’s match will conclude the regular season for the Nittany Lions. 

The second-ranked men’s volleyball team rallied back from a two-set deficit to force game five, but ultimately came up short in a 3-2 loss to Princeton in the EIVA Tournament semifinal round Thursday night at Rec Hall.

MLB – The Pirates defeated the Cubs 4-3

NHL – The Flyers over Montreal, 6-3. The Penguins shutout the Bruins, 4-0.
