April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month and a new study from Nationwide found people are still driving dangerously despite worrying about other people doing the same.
Compared to 2020, more than 80-percent think drivers are more aggressive and nearly the same amount think people are driving faster. At the same time, a third of drivers think it’s safe to use a phone behind the wheel for calling, texting or navigation.
Fatalities were up 12-percent through the first nine months of 2021.
Here’s how the numbers break down among age groups:
- 39-percent of Gen Z and Millennials think it’s safe to be using the phone while driving
- 35-percent of Gen X think it’s safe to be using the phone while driving
- 20-percent of Boomers think it’s safe to be using the phone while driving
