President Joe Biden unveiled tough new sanctions against Moscow yesterday in response to Russian military actions currently unfolding in Ukraine. Calling the events “the beginning of a Russian invasion,” Biden laid out sanctions that would effectively cut off Russia’s financial institutions and oligarchs from Western finance. Biden also announced he is moving additional troops and equipment to “strengthen” US allies in the region.

Ukraine’s military is calling up reservists to fight a Russian invasion. The country’s president says the threat of an all out war is forcing him to recall some to active duty. But he promised this won’t affect civilians. Russia began moving troops into two breakaway regions yesterday.

A chunk of the nation is bracing for another blast of winter weather.  The West is dealing with rain and high winds, with more snow expected in California, Arizona, Utah, New Mexico and Colorado.  The storm will then dump ice and snow in central states before hitting the Northeast.

Police across the nation are on alert for a convoy of truckers protesting COVID mandates.  Organizers say it’ll start today in Southern California and make about ten stops on the way to D.C.  This could interfere with President Biden’s State of the Union Speech on March 1st.

Investigators are trying to figure out why a helicopter crashed near a Navy facility in Hawaii.  All four people on board were killed during a missile range training operation.  Officials say the helicopter had just retrieved an object from the ocean and was trying to drop it on the ground.

A push to make Florida schools out students to their parents is over.  An amendment had been added what critics call the “Don’t Say Gay” bill but was removed yesterday.  The bill itself is still advancing and would limit teachers from talking about gender and sexuality in class.

Home prices are hitting record levels, soaring nearly 19-percent last year.  Out of 20 cities studied, Phoenix again topped the list with a 32-percent annual increase.   The Case-Shiller index puts two Florida next, with Tampa second and Miami in third.
