A tire smashed into the windshield of a Spring Township police car but neither the the officers nor the pickup truck driver were injured.

New developments overnight in the Ukraine crisis. Russia says it’s pulling some troops from the border. An official confirms a number of military units are returning to base after completing drills. The U.S. closed its embassy in Ukraine yesterday amid fears of a Russian invasion.

A federal prosecutor says the Clinton campaign invented a story that former President Trump was using a “covert server” linked to Russia.  Reports say the prosecutor looking into the origins of the Trump-Russia investigation has concluded Clinton campaign lawyers paid operatives to try and “infiltrate” Trump Tower servers, then later servers in the White House.  The indictment says this was done to establish an “inference” and false “narrative” linking Trump to Russia. 

The civil rights trial in the Minnesota killing of George Floyd enters a new phase today.  The defense will begin presenting its case after the prosecution rested.  Three former cops are accused of not trying to save Floyd’s life during an arrest in 2020.  Two of them will testify.

Police in San Francisco are catching heat for linking a woman to a crime using her rape kit.  Her DNA was collected years ago and put into a database to identify suspects.  The city’s district attorney says this may be unconstitutional and could keep others from speaking out.

Billionaire Jared Isaacman is buying at least three more private space flights.  He founded the payments company Shift4 and flew on the first private Space-X flight last September.  He’s due to lead a four-person crew mission that will spend up to five days in orbit. 

The American West is experiencing the worst mega-drought in over a millennium.  A new study found the past 22 years have been the driest in at least 12-hundred years.  Scientists estimate nearly 50-percent of the drought’s severity can be attributed to climate change. 

A small-time actor who ran a big money Ponzi scheme is on his way to prison.  Zachary Horowitz was sentenced Monday to 20 years in federal prison and ordered to pay more than 230-million dollars in restitution.  The Justice Department says Horowitz raised at least 650-million dollars with bogus claims that investors’ money would acquire licensing rights to movies that HBO and Netflix would distribute abroad.  Horowitz, whose stage name is Zach Avery, acted in about a dozen mostly low-budget movies.
