A second trial in the Georgia killing of Ahmaud Arbery two years ago begins this morning. Three men convicted of chasing and shooting the 25-year-old while he was jogging are due in federal court on hate crime charges. Prosecutors will again argue they were fueled by race.

Diplomacy is shifting into overdrive today as NATO leaders try to avoid a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine.  Several meetings are planned.  The presidents of France and Russia will gather in Moscow, while the German chancellor visits with President Biden at the White House. 

Several Republicans are backing former Vice President Mike Pence for saying he had no right to overturn election results.  Speaking in Florida Friday, Pence said former President Trump was wrong to think he could.  Retired General H. R. McMaster, who served under Trump, told CBS he agrees.

A Boston hospital is back in the headlines for denying a heart transplant to an unvaccinated man.  About 100 protesters gathered outside Brigham and Women’s Hospital over the weekend to oppose vaccine mandates.  The patient waved to the crowd from his window.

Everyone on board a Delta flight is safe after a tricky landing in Atlanta.  Their plane blew a tire on the way back from Texas yesterday.  The pilots were able to bring it to a stop on the taxi way.  No one was hurt.

The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations says China’s selection of a Uyghur [[ WEE-gur ]] Muslim torchbearer to light the Olympic cauldron was a ‘distraction’ by Beijing.  Linda Thomas-Greenfield described it as an attempt to distract critics from what the White House has called an “ongoing genocide” of the Uyghur ethnic group by the Chinese government.
