The IRS has announced that you can start filing your 2021 federal income tax returns on January 24th.
The tax filing deadline is April 18, unless you live in Massachusetts. They celebrate Patriots Day, which pushes their deadline to April 19. The IRS warns that refunds may be delayed due to backlogs and a lack of resources.
The agency is still playing catch-up from the height of the ongoing COVID pandemic and they note we are too, saying “The pandemic continues to create challenges, but the IRS reminds people there are important steps they can take to help ensure their tax return and refund don’t face processing delays.”
