President Biden is set to keep the nation from going into default today. He’ll sign a bill passed by Congress yesterday, just hours before a critical deadline. It increases the debt limit by more than two-trillion dollars, allowing the government to keep paying its bills into 2023.

It’s now up to the Justice Department to decide on charging a former White House chief of staff.  The House voted last night to hold Mark Meadows in contempt of Congress.  He defied a subpoena from the committee investigating January’s Capitol attack and refused to testify.

The lights are slowly coming back on in Kentucky from the state’s worst tornado outbreak.  More than 17-thousand homes and businesses remain in the dark, down from 26-thousand.  But in places like hard hit Mayfield, power won’t be restored until after the holidays. 

A Michigan officer is on paid leave after accidentally firing his gun during a call.  Police say they thought Daevionne Smith’s car was stolen and approached him as he left his dad’s apartment building.  Turns out, he was the wrong guy but also happens to be Breonna Taylor’s cousin.

A program-record 131 Penn State student-athletes earned Academic All-Big Ten honors for Penn State’s fall programs. The 131 honorees are the most in Penn State’s fall history, topping the 117 selections in the fall of 2017. Victoria Vanriele (women’s cross country), Jonathan Sutherland (football), Kerry Abello (women’s soccer), Sam Coffey (women’s soccer), Olivia Damico (women’s soccer) and Payton Sewall (men’s cross country) all had perfect 4.0 GPAs.

A basketball star is now the all time leading three point scorer in NBA history.  Steph Curry set the record last night when the Golden State Warriors beat the New York Knicks 105-to-96.  Curry finished with five three-point shots, extending his career total to two-thousand-977. 

A mass killing in South Carolina saw former NFL player Phillip Adams take the lives of six people before turning the gun on himself. An autopsy on Adams has finally confirmed what his family and others feared most—Adams suffered from the severe brain disease known as CTE.
