Three progressive, first-time candidates are the apparent winners in the 2021 State College Borough Council election. Gopal Balachandran, Divine Lipscomb and Richard Biever each had more than double the votes of Republican candidate Jacob Werner with all precincts partially reporting as of 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday.  The ‘Win 4 Bellefonte’ ticket swept to victory in Bellefonte Area School District.

The first-ever Veterans Comedy Boot Camp was held at the Arts Altoona Center last night.

Road work will cause several travel restrictions and street closures on Thursday and Friday in State College. Here’s what’s scheduled:

• 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday: South Allen Street between East Nittany Avenue and East Fairmount Avenue will be reduced to one lane with flaggers directing traffic while. State College Borough Public Works performs an asphalt repair.

• 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday and Friday: HRI Inc. will be excavating Logan Avenue between South Allen Street and South Atherton Street, requiring the street to be closed.

• 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday and Friday: HRI Inc. will be excavating between West Beaver Avenue and West Foster Avenue, requiring the street to be closed.

Walgreens and CVS are taking appointments for kids under 12 to get a COVID vaccine. Walmart and Sam’s Club will start this weekend. President Biden says 20-thousand locations will be in full mode by next week as part of a program to protect 28-million kids.

The governor of New Jersey is promising to work every day for the next four years to move the state forward.  Phil Murphy gave his victory speech in a race that was too close to call for almost 24 hours.  He’s the first Democratic governor reelected in 44 years.

A former football star is out of jail after a deadly crash in Las Vegas.  Police say Henry Ruggs was drunk at more than twice the legal limit and going 156-miles an hour when he slammed into an SUV, killing a woman.  The Raiders released him from the team hours later.

It looks like the husband of a woman killed on a New Mexico movie set wants justice.  He hired a Los Angeles law firm that specializes in wrongful death cases.  His cinematographer wife was shot by actor Alec Baldwin two weeks with a prop gun he thought was empty. 

Republicans are blocking a second voting rights bill in the Senate.  They refused to let it advance.  The bill is named in honor of civil rights icon and late congressman John Lewis.  Democrats needed at least ten GOP votes but only got one. 

John Deere says the United Auto Workers union likely won’t get a better labor contract offer.  More then ten-thousand workers are on strike, with just over half turning down a second offer this week.  It included ten percent raises and increased benefits.

Penn State redshirt senior quarterback Sean Clifford has been named a semifinalist for The Wuerffel Trophy, it was announced on Wednesday. Clifford is one of 12 semifinalists.

Four members of head coach Char Morett-Curtiss’ Penn State field hockey team have earned post-season honors for the 2021-22 Big Ten season with the announcement of the All-Big Ten teams and Sportsmanship Award winners.  The Nittany Lions have two first team honorees, a second team member and a sportsmanship award winner.
