I love this time of year. Halloween is only days away and the holiday season is coming. Today is a special day to celebrate with National Chocolate Day! Here’s some sweet, fun facts about chocolate :
Life Is Like A Box of Chocolates
60% of people choose a chocolate based on their mood, the occasion, the time of day, and even the weather. Other findings:
– 66% of women say chocolate is just as personal of a decision as choosing their own lipstick or make-up.
– 55% of people eat creamy milk chocolate when they need an escape.
Eating chocolate is four times more exciting than kissing. Dr. David Lewis hooked up scores of women to electrodes before measuring their heartbeats after eating chocolate and kissing their mates. He found eating the candy made hearts race to as much as 140 beats per minute. Kissing also stimulated parts of the brain, but not nearly as much as chocolate.
Chocolate may help beat colds and coughs.
Professor Alyn Morice says, ”About 300 people with a persistent cough are taking part in a clinical trial where they are being given the naturally occurring chemical theobromine, derived from the raw ingredient of chocolate, twice a day for 14 days. Early indicators are that 60% of patients experience some measure of relief. Although eating chocolate on a daily basis may have other unwanted effects, including weight gain and so on.”
Chocolate is better for you than fruit because dark chocolate is richer in health-boosting antioxidants than juices made from blueberries, cranberries and other so-called ‘superfruits’. Adding sugar and milk to a chocolate bar will dilute its benefits. Dr Debra Miller says cocoa and dark chocolate have more flavanols, an antioxidant credited with preventing wrinkles and heart disease, than fruit.
