Surgeon Is Fined For Napping And Missing Surgery

Yes, even surgeons need naps… it’s just not a great idea to take one on surgery day.

A Boston Medical Center surgeon has been fined for leaving the operating room to eat lunch in his car and falling asleep. Longtime head of spine surgery, Dr. Tony Tannoury, admitted that he woke up in his car one night back in 2016 and had missed an emergency ankle surgery.

Tannoury says he called the hospital and learned that someone else had performed the surgery. He didn’t return to the facility until the next day. Tannoury has been fined five-thousand-dollars and given a formal reprimand over the incident. He also had to take continuing ed courses.
