It’s Not How Much You Eat, But What You Eat That Causes Weight Gain

If you think overeating is how people gain weight, you’ve missed the mark according to a group of scientists.

The study shows processed food and rapidly digestible carbohydrates may be what’s really behind society’s growing waistline. The USDA’s current Dietary Guidelines for Americans for 2020 to 2025 says that losing weight “requires adults to reduce the number of calories they get from foods and beverages and increase the amount expended through physical activity.”

The study authors say this doesn’t work now because of the amount of highly tasty, heavily marketed, cheap processed foods infused worldwide. The foods tend to cause hormonal responses which change metabolism, usually downward. One change with the “junk” food is insulin is produced when it shouldn’t be.

The key to weight loss? Ditch the processed, boxed food and eat more natural stuff.
