YouTube has realized YouTube Kids is too limiting for older kids, but that full-blown YouTube access is still too much for some young teens to handle, so it’s created Supervised accounts intended for tweens (ages 10-14) and teens. YouTube says it worked with parents and experts to create a three-tier content setting: Explore, Explore More, and Most of YouTube.
Explore offers general guidance and is intended for the 9+ age group, Explore More is intended for those ages 13+, and Most of YouTube offers access to everything except age-restricted content and sensitive topics deemed only appropriate for older teens. Right now the supervised account is being offered in an early beta for families under the age of consent. Feedback will help refine the features before it’s expanded to a wider audience.
