If you have a pet you likely have tons of toys for them—but when is it time to throw a pet toy away?
Veterinarian Jennifer Frione says, “It may be a matter of minutes for some pets and a matter of months for others. If a soft toy starts to rip at the seam and/or stuffing is coming out, it is time for you to replace it with a new soft fluffy toy for your four-legged friend.” Likewise, if you see rubber or plastic toys are breaking or pieces are easily coming off—it’s time to toss them. Experts say the concern is that worn-out toys can cause serious gastrointestinal problems if a piece happens to be swallowed, and this can require medical care.
In addition, you should know that you should be washing and sanitizing your pet’s toys often—two to three times per week if the toy is used often or used for outdoor play.
