Cleaning Products

Most people are cleaning more often as the pandemic rages on, but are you cleaning correctly?

A new survey from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reveals that 39 percent of U.S. adults reported using cleaning products and disinfectants in potentially dangerous ways while intending to limit exposure to COVID-19. A full 19 percent reported applying bleach to food items, 18 percent reported using household cleaners on their hands or skin, 10 percent reported misting their body with a cleaning spray, and six percent actually said they inhaled vapors from household cleaners.

Researchers warn, “These practices pose a risk of severe tissue damage and corrosive injury and should be strictly avoided.” In addition, the study shows people have significant gaps in knowledge surrounding the proper use of cleaning products, with the biggest gaps involving people not realizing they should keep hand sanitizers stored away from a child’s reach, and how to safely prepare disinfectant and cleaning solutions.  (Fox
