Study: Does Crime Increase When The Moon Is Full?

Halloween conjures up images of ghosts and full moons, but is it true that more crimes are committed when the moon is full? BetaGov researchers reviewed old data and find the answer is not exactly clear. Some studies found evidence of a lunar effect on crime and negative behavior, while others show none at all. But, data from the Vallejo police shows no correlation between full moons and crime from January 2014 to May 2018. Other police forces in Canada and Mexico did the same thing, and also found no connection between full moons and crime increases. A researcher notes that these types of studies are “fun” but that they have real implications for “policing such as in developing staffing assignments and distribution of other law-enforcement resources.”¬†
