Pet Peeves of Alex Trebek

Alex Trebek has come across thousands of contestants since he first started hosting Jeopardy in 1984, but he admitted some players really get on his nerves.

The 78-year-old game show host told Vulture he gets bothered by players who “jump all over the board even after the Daily Doubles have been dealt with.” It turns out they aren’t the only ones who irritate him.

  • People who a whistle the Final Jeopardy! theme

  • Contestants who stick their chewing gum under the podium

  • Idiots without a heartwarming story for the “meet the contestants” segment

  • Gratuitous Canada-bashing

  • Anything not phrased as a question

  • Contestants who buzz in, then stall for time stammering, “I know this one…”

  • That silver-tongued Johnny Gilbert getting all the chicks

  • Morons who keep asking him where Vanna is

  • People who insist on spelling “Jeopardy!” without the exclamation point

  • Wise-guys who ask, “Oh, is that show still on?”

  • Those eggheaded brats on Kids Week
