Women Are Better Judges Of Wine Than Men

There’s a wine called Mommy’s Time Out, so perhaps it makes sense that a new study finds women are better at telling the differences between types of wine than men are. Researchers from the Technical University of Madrid had 208 adults do a blind taste test of six varieties of wine. All participants were asked to describe the feeling each wine gave them, as well as the difference between the tastes of each wine. The results showed women were better at telling the differences between the wines they tasted, and also tended to report happier feelings when drinking whites compared to reds. Study leader Dr. Carolina Chaya notes another interesting find, saying, “Young adults [under age 35] drink wine for reasons related to disinhibition and social status, while older people use it as a social catalyst, to evoke memories and traditions.”
