How Toxic Relationships Affect Your Health

When something is labeled as “toxic” one would assume it’s unhealthy. Behavior scientist and relationship coach Clarissa Silva says being in a toxic relationship can have a negative impact on your physical health. She says, “Settling for a toxic relationship creates a false sense of intimacy, hope, trust, and disillusionment in the relationship. Over time  and because these feelings are often unexpressed, [a toxic relationship] can result in creating anxiety and/or depression, which can manifest themselves as other chronic illnesses further down the line.” If you worry you are in a toxic relationship the best way to get healthy is to find a safe way to get out of that relationship (with the help of your personal social support network, of course.)
