Study Suggests Hot Yoga Is No Better For The Heart Than Regular Yoga

Hot yoga (or Bikram yoga) is pretty trendy, but is it better for the heart than regular yoga? A new study suggests it’s really not. Texas State University divided 52 sedentary but healthy adults ages 40 to 60 into three groups: two groups that did three 90-minute Bikran yoga sessions each week– one in a room that was 73 degrees, and the other in a room that was the standard 105-degrees. The third group was the control, and did no yoga. Researchers say members of both yoga-practicing groups saw the same heart health benefits. Study author Stacy Hunter admits, “We were surprised by the result that a non-heated practice seemed to have the same benefit on vascular health as the heated practice.” (UPI)¬†
