Study: The More Competitive, The More Passionate In Romantic Relationships

It turns out having the freedom to choose and change your romantic partner is what makes folks more passionate in relationships. Researchers from Jokkaido University in Japan surveyed both Americans and Japanese people and found that Americans were more passionate towards their partners than the Japanese are, which they determined is because Americans live in social environments in which it is more acceptable to choose and replace their romantic partners. The study also found the more passionate the person, the more likely they were to give affection to only their partner while also only sleeping with that person. Researchers note the findings “[suggest] you should be more passionate and give your partner special attention when they have more freedom to choose.” More research would be needed to confirm the same phenomenon among folks of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds.
