Social Media Etiquette Mistakes to Avoid

Whether you spend more time on social media that you’d like to admit or you keep your use down to a reasonable level, there are some social media etiquette mistakes that you might not even realize you’re making. Bustle put together a list of 11 of them to avoid:

  1. Tagging friends without asking

  2. Complaining about your job — It’s too easy for it to get back to your boss, other higher-ups or co-workers.

  3. Posting too frequently

  4. Overusing hashtags

  5. Forcing a connection — Trying to force familiarity that you don’t have when trying to boost your career or brand.

  6. Oversharing your personal information — Venting on social media has its limits.

  7. Announcing you’re cleaning up your friend list

  8. Asking (or begging) for followers — Or for them to like things, comment or retweet.

  9. Bragging or showing off

  10. Talking about your business venture on Facebook — If you constantly post on your personal page about your business, it can annoy friends and family and even might violate FB’s terms of service. Set up a business page for your business.

  11. Forgetting to write back — Try to respond to all comments, even if it’s something as simple as “Thank you.”
