Putting Your Hair In A Ponytail At The Gym Could Leave You Bald

If you have long hair you’ll know there are times when it’s very convenient to put it up in a ponytail or bun, but you may want to try not to do this very often. Trichologist Anabel Kingsley (daughter of hair guru Philip Kingsley) says putting your hair up all the time can leave you dealing with traction alopecia in rare cases, which can potentially leave you permanently bald. She explains, “Overly tight hairstyles, such as wearing your hair in a tight ponytail or braid, can put too much traction on the hair and hair follicle. Initially, this can cause breakage and may even pull strands out. If done repeatedly over a long period of time, permanent hair loss can occur.
