Foodie Trends For July 4th

You’d think tradition would rule on the Fourth of July, even when it comes to the food we eat. And you would be right. Americans will spend $7.1 billion on food by the time this long weekend ends with a fireworks bang. The most popular item, according to a national retail group, will be ground beef, followed by beef steak, chicken and hotdogs. We’ll also spend $105 million just on barbecue sauce, ketchup and mustard to slather on all that sizzling meat. The feast will cost us an average $73.42 per person, up from $71.34 last year. About 162 million Americans will be at a picnic or a barbecue at least one day over the July holiday, the retail group says. (National Retail Federation)
