Why You Can’t Control Who You Hate

All people don’t get along, it’s just a fact of life. So why do some people overwhelm us with a sense of dread or immense dislike? Psychologist, Dr. Christine Brown explains our unconscious mind is constantly paying attention to what’s going on around us, and can pick up on subtleties from a person that our conscious mind misses. For example, our unconscious mind picks up a person’s tone of voice, and can catch if it’s threatening or aggressive. Furthermore, our unconscious mind can make an instant judgment about someone’s trustworthiness, and this judgment is amazingly accurate. Brown says you should trust this instinct, and also steer clear of anyone that makes you uneasy. She adds you can make others feel comfortable by smiling, making eye contact, and asking about themselves. (Fox
