The Healthiest Way To Improve Sleep: Exercise

If you’re one of the 108 million Americans who suffer from insomnia, put away your sleeping pills. Rush University clinical psychologist Kelly Baron says, “There has been more and more research in the last decade showing exercise can reduce insomnia. In one study I did, for example, older women suffering from insomnia said their sleep improved from poor to good when they exercised. They had more energy and were less depressed.” Though exercise is not quite as effective as sleeping pills, it comes with far fewer risks than popping the pills, as they can cause infections, and can lose their effectiveness after a few weeks.
