Here’s something you might want to know going into the weekend. Or just block it OUT of your memory and keep the party going . . .
A new study found that binge drinking can have immediate effects on your HEART, and cause an irregular heartbeat . . . also called arrhythmia.
Researchers in Germany tracked the heartbeats of 3,000 people at Oktoberfest. Most of them were drinking, but about 400 weren’t. And the more people drank, the more likely they were to show signs of an irregular heartbeat.
Before you panic, an irregular heartbeat isn’t always a big deal. Most of what they picked up in the study were cases of tachycardia . . . which basically just means your heart is beating faster than normal. As you’d expect if you’re out partying.
But about 5% of the irregular heartbeats they picked up were the more DANGEROUS type than can lead to a heart attack or stroke.
They also think it’s possible that the “harmless” kind of arrhythmia can eventually lead to the more serious kind. It’s possible that’s NOT the case, but they need to do more research.
So in other words, don’t worry too much yet. But it’s another reminder that drinking too much can affect your body in ways you might not even think about. (BBC)
