Study: Better Sleep Feels Like Winning The Lottery

If you’ve ever struggled with insomnia or any other sleep issue, you know how amazing it feels to sleep well. So it’s no surprise a new study finds improving your sleep quality is as beneficial to health and happiness as winning the lottery. Researchers from the University of Warwick analyzed the sleep patterns of more than 30,500 people in U.K. households for four years. They found positive changes in sleep over time– improved quality and quantity, and using less sleep medication– are linked with improved with scores on the General Health Questionnaire, which is used by mental health professionals to monitor psychological wellbeing in patients. The improvement in the score was the equivalent to winning the lottery. (EurekAlert!
