How To Talk To Your Dog

Dogs and humans just go together, and a new study reveals there are certain ways to speak to your new puppy if you want to maximize the chances that it follows what you’re saying. Researchers already know when we talk to dogs we tend to use what’s called “dog-directed speech.” That is we change the structure of our sentences, shortening and simplifying them. We also tend to speak with a higher pitch in our voices. The new findings show that speaking to puppies in this manner really does help the creatures pay more attention, compared to speaking to them in a regular way. Researchers showed participants photos of either puppies, adult dogs, old dogs, or no photo at all, and then had them repeat a command. When they played the recordings to dogs, they found puppies responded most to recordings made after humans saw a photo of a dog of any age. (UPI
