To Fight Off Infections, Get More Sun

If you’re worried about fighting off winter colds, you may want to get more sun. Georgetown University researchers have found that sunlight boosts our health by energizing the immune system. They discovered that low levels of blue light helps T cells, which play a role in fighting off infections, move faster. Experts warn that low level blue light from the sun or specially designed lamps is safer than UV rays. Study author, Dr. Gerard Ahern says, “T cells, whether they are helper or killer, need to move to do their work, which is to get to the site of an infection and orchestrate a response. This study shows that sunlight directly activates key immune cells by increasing their movement.” (Daily Mail
