Study: After Your Favorite Team Loses Your Work Performance Suffers

If your favorite sports team does poorly, it could affect your work performance, finds a new study. Published in the Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, researchers polled a group of soccer fans for four weeks. On each Monday after their teams played on Sunday, the participants rated their mood, work engagement, and job performance. The data revealed when their team lost, they reported more negatively in all three areas. Study co-author Panagiotis Gkorezie, Ph.D., explains this happens because your attachment to a particular team becomes part of your identity.
