Study: The Human Brain Is Hardwired To Prefer Red Food Over Green

If you think your child is just being difficult when refusing to eat their veggies, it really might not be their fault. The International School for Advanced Studies researchers say in their experiments, participants judged red foods to be higher in calories and green foods to be lower in calories. Study author Dr. Francesco Foroni says when it comes to natural foods, the redder an unprocessed food is, the more likely it is to be nutritious, while green foods tend to be lower in calories. He says the brain even applies the preference for red food over green food to processed foods, suggesting it’s an ancient evolutionary trait.
