Grunting Doesn’t Help You Poop! It Makes Things More Difficult

When you’re sitting on the toilet, do you GRUNT as loudly as possible to get things moving?  If of all, EWWWWWWW. Second… you can quiet down.

According to a gastroenterologist at Aarhus University in Denmark, grunting does NOT help the pooping process.  In fact, it might make it HARDER to get the job done.

Quote, “[Successfully moving your bowels] is all about pressure, and that pressure decreases when we let air and noises out of our mouth.  Therefore, the release of forced sounds should have the opposite effect” of what you want.
