The Science Behind Your Love Of Carbs

Who doesn’t love carbs? It’s a pesky thing to like so much, and a new study uncovers why we crave carbs so often. Researchers from Oregon State University discovered that our taste buds are able to detect complex carbohydrates. Subjects tasted plain water, and carb solutions, and were able to tell the difference between the two. They said the carby solutions tasted starchy, rice-like or pasta-like. Study leader Juyun Lim says, “We do not know the exact mechanisms or know which specialized receptors pick up on these carbohydrates. But we now know that our taste buds are more complex than we think.” (NY Post
