Study: Marijuana Is A Better Painkiller For Men Than It Is For Women

If you’re using marijuana for pain relief you should know a new study reveals it works better for men than it does for women. Researchers from Columbia University analyzed data from two studies that looked at the pain-killing effects of marijuana in 42 recreational smokers. After smoking, participants immersed one hand in a cold-water bath until the pain could no longer be tolerated. In a questionnaire following the exercise, men who smoked marijuana reported a significant decrease in pain sensitivity and an increase in pain tolerance. Women did not experience a significant decrease in pain sensitivity, although they reported a small increase in pain tolerance shortly after smoking. Study leader Zica Cooper, Ph.D., says, “This study underscores the importance of including both men and women in clinical trials aimed at understanding the potential therapeutic and negative effects of cannabis.” (Daily Mail
