Study: Most Humans Are Naturally Kind

Here’s a heartwarming piece of science: new findings indicate that most humans are naturally kind. Researchers from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology and the University of California Santa Barbara’s Department of Anthropology looked at three small populations of farmers in lowland Bolivia. Scientists found the need or desire for resources combined with direct, especially positive, exposure to out-group members, may be key to promoting trust, tolerance and possible friendship with these individuals. It’s believed a better understanding of why humans are so prone to inter-group tolerance and friendship will “hopefully allow us to better nurture friendships that transcend group boundaries– and maybe reduce the volume of conflict we see in the news.” (Daily Mail
