Non-Melting Ice Cream

Ice cream is a summertime staple, but it’s heartbreaking when it begins to melt, and falls off your cone. Gastronaut ice cream doesn’t melt, and now a Kickstarter campaign seeks to bring the creation (originally developed for astronauts) to the masses. Gastronaut ice cream is made by freeze-drying it, but the man running the Kickstarter campaign, Robert Collignon, is redefining it. He says that typical freeze-dried ice cream doesn’t taste that good because it’s made with very cheap ice cream. To rememdy this he’s “sourced super-premium organic ice cream that’s made in Brooklyn” that he slices into rectangles, freeze-dries for a day, and adds a bit of sea salt to. He’s already raised over $40,000 on Kickstarter, where a $12 donation will get you two Gastronaut Ice Cream bars of your own. (Mental Floss
