Help doing the heavy lifting

There are lots of things to do this weekend….The two Arts Festivals, The Spikes, and watching Rama Lama perform on Sunday afternoon from 12:30 to 1:30 on the Old Main lawn.  (Yes…that WAS a shameless plug….it’s my blog, not yours).  If you’re a Penn State Football fan, and who among us isn’t, the one place you want to be this weekend is the Lift for Life event going on this Saturday from 11 – 1 at the Lacrosse field on campus.

Lift for Life began years ago, when then-student Scott Shirley found out that his father had been diagnosed with kidney cancer.  A little research later and Scott found out that 2 other teammates had fathers with kidney cancer and that this form of cancer received little funding.  So…the guys got together with their strength coach, John Thomas, and created this extraordinary event.  The guys were already lifting in the summer, so JT came up with some “interesting” exercises and allowed the players to form teams to perform these fetes of strength against each other.  Tire flips…”Buddy” carts…Iron Crosses…Plate Pulls…just some of the events in the first year.  It has grown to be a must-see event for any football fan.

The event itself is free of charge.  It’s probably the only time you’ll have this kind of access to the football team.  It gives you a chance to help in the fight against rare diseases.  Sounds like a pretty good time to me.
