How to be More Socially Awkward

If you avoid people because you dislike social interactions you might actually be making yourself more awkward. Brigham Young University researchers monitored 204 students from two universities. The students self-reported on their social lives at the beginning and at the end of the one-year study period. The data reveals that there are three types of introverted people: shy, unsocial, and avoidant. Shy people are held back by fear, unsocial people can interact with others but choose not to, and avoidant people just avoid human interaction in general. All types of introverts were found to lose their ability to socialize comfortably if they didn’t use the skill regularly, and avoidant individuals who played violent video games were found to be more likely to struggle with depression and get into trouble later on.
