Moonshine Is Really Trendy Right Now

Moonshine is really having a moment right now. The un-aged corn whiskey is being marketed largely toward cocktail enthusiasts and younger consumers who want to drink something authentic and classically old school. Trisha Antonsen, editor-in-chief and chief cocktail officer at Drizly.com says, “Right now, more than ever, people are about a good story, and the modern moonshine market is capitalizing on that.” Right now moonshine is profitable and quick to produce, since it doesn’t have to age, but will most people drink it long term? Eric Schmidt, director of alcohol research at Beverage Marketing Corporation says, “Moonshine is a harsh spirit that is not super palatable…in my opinion, it doesn’t bode well long-term, because the base spirit is so harsh.” (NBC)
