Spending A Lot Of Time On Facebook And Instagram Could Be Making You Depressed

If you’re familiar with social media at all, you know it is a good way to see all the cool things family and friends are doing without you. Now a new study from the National Institute for Mental Health has identified a “strong and significant association between social media use and depression.” This study found that levels of depression increased with total amount of time spent using social media and number of visits to social media sites per week. Previous studies have noted the issue is actually more complex that it seems, for example, it’s possible that people who are already depressed might be more inclined to rely on social media instead of face-to-face interaction, so greater social media use may be a symptom rather than a cause of depression.
