One of the biggest regrets I’ll have in life is not to have witnessed these guys playing live. Thank goodness someone was smart enough to film and preserve these moments until YouTube showed up.
Yet another Rock and Roll icon has the news came to us today of the passing of Keith Emerson, who chose to end his life last Thursday at the age of 71. It was reported that Keith had been suffering from a nerve disorder and was unable to play the keyboards anymore, which led to a devastating depression. While I understand (and pointed out in an earlier column) that our R&R heroes are into their 70’s and 80’s, which is when most of us die, on average, this one might have been prevented if someone had taken action with the depression. It is SO debilitating…and those who have it rarely seek treatment. That’s where WE have to come into play. Your friend/co-worker/relative may not just be lazy or bitchy or “no fun anymore”…they may be seriously depressed.
I spent 5, count ’em FIVE, hours at a cell phone place on Saturday just to lower my outrageously high cell phone bill. I’ll let you know how it turns out.
Kinda sad that the Penn State men’s basketball team chose to just end their season with the Big 10 Tournament and not pursue something in the post season. I would have like to have seen those guys play a few more times, especially Brandon Taylor….a talented kid and a REAL leader.
