What are ya waitin’ fer?

Yes, I know I stole (and paraphrased) that line of Mick’s from “Rocky”, but it was the first thing that popped into my head this morning when I learned of the death of Paul Kantner of Jefferson Airplane/Starship at the age of 74…yet another rock star taken from us in what has been a horrible month for this kind of thing.

Like many of you, as the deaths mounted up this month, I was thinking “What the hell is going on here?”…but I realized this morning that I was wrong to think that.  It’s not like it’s happening 30 years ago….these guys (and us) are getting old!  Everyone we grew up listening to in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s have tacked a minimum of 30 YEARS onto themselves…they’re now IN their 60’s, 70’s and 80’s!  Which leads me to my point (you knew I’d get there eventually).

Our heroes from all areas of entertainment are getting old…and so are we.  And no, this isn’t a “Hug/Call a loved one” blog.  It’s a “What are ya waitin’ fer” blog.  No one is guaranteed a second of life.  We could all go at any

time (just kidding).  And what have you done?  Seriously…it’s something I asked myself every day because I’m one of those people who don’t plan my life very well, so I’m always letting minor/insignificant things get in the way of me doing what I really want to do in life.  When I think of the hours and hours and hours I’ve spent wishing to be doing something or visiting somewhere or being something else…it’s a shame.  The only person standing in your way…is you.  Maybe you’ll never be President, or a great athlete or something like that, but if you take your life by the horns, who knows what you could achieve.  And it doesn’t have to be huge or splashy…maybe you learn to juggle or play an instrument, or be a mentor to a kid who desperately needs one, go some place you’ve never gone before…the list goes on and on.  My point is this…if there’s something you’ve always wanted, but never took the time to pursue…WHAT ARE YA WAITIN’ FER???

Unfortunately for all of us….the clock IS ticking…….
